India take on South Africa in the second T20I in Guwahati on Sunday, October 2. The hosts are leading the three-match series after winning the first T20I on Wednesday in Thiruvananthapuram. The Proteas have to win the second T20I to keep the series alive. This is the last international assignment for India heading into the T20 World Cup in Australia.

The pitch at the Greenfield stadium came under a lot of criticism for playing the way it did in the first game. Players and cricket experts from both teams said that it was not an ideal T20 pitch. There was a lot of bounce and carry from the pitch and the ball also moved both ways after pitching.

The much-famed South African batting lineup could only muster 106 in the given conditions. India also lost quick wickets in the chase. Rohit Sharma was out for a duck while Virat Kohli scored three from nine balls. Suryakumar Yadav (50) and KL Rahul (51*) 93 together to take India over the line.

“The wicket was tricky. You learn a lot playing such a game. You understand what the team needs to do in tough conditions. It was nice to play a game like that. We knew the bowlers will get something seeing grass on the pitch, but we didn’t expect help for the full 20 overs. It was still damp. Both teams were in the contest and the team that played better won the game. We started well, got 5 wickets in quick time and that was the turning point” said Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
