South Africa Tour Of India 2022, SA Playing 11 vs IND (Predicted), 2nd T20I. India will meet the Proteas on 2nd October in the 2nd T20I at 7 pm in Barsapara Cricket Stadium (Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium), Guwahati. India is eying their first T20 series win against South Africa at home. India beat South Africa by 8 wickets in the inaugural game of the series to take a lead of 1-0.

KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored half-centuries while chasing 107 runs target after pacers Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar reduced the Proteas to 9/5. A win in the 2nd T20I against the visitors can give Rohit Sharma his 7th consecutive T20I series win as a captain. But he has a tough task to make it happen in absence of the lead bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Resistance from Aiden Markram (25) and Wayne Parnell (24) followed by classy innings from Keshav Maharaj (41) helped South Africa to set a target of 107 runs. Indian top order chased the target with 8 wickets and 20 balls in hand after half-centuries from KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav.

With the win, India now have 23 wins in one calendar year (most by any team). They haven’t lost the last 8 T20I series (7 wins, 1 draw). So it will be difficult for Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma to keep their record of not losing a series on Indian soil.

It was a nightmare for South Africa in the 1st T20I. Losing 5 wickets for 9 runs wasn’t expected for the South African side. It was the third time South Africa had lost 5 wickets in the powerplay. Hopefully, they come back stronger in the second T20I.  Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma will open the innings for South Africa.

Rilee Rossouw,

Rilee Rossouw who was South Africa’s leading run-scorer with 296 runs in 5 games against England also got out on the duck in the first game. A bad game will not make his form stutter and is expected to bounce back against the Indian bowling attack. He may also be replaced by Reeza Hendricks.

Aiden Markram and Wayne Parnell brought South Africa back into the game with a 33-run partnership. Aiden Markram is the backbone of SA’s middle-order for quite a long. Tristan Stubbs needs to work on playing more balls before going for big hits. He went for a zero in the first game on his first ball after playing a shot not required for the situation.

Tabraiz Shamsi

Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell gave just 5 runs per over in 8 overs. It was the spin attack of Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj that got hammered by the Indian batters. This happened in the last series too. SA may go with Dwaine Pretorious over Tabraiz Shamsi as he adds batting also in the mixture. Anrich Nortje also picked up a wicket on the very first ball of his spell, that too of Virat Kohli, but went for 32 runs in 3 overs.

Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock will be looking to replicate his IPL 2022 performance in upcoming India vs South Africa T20I series as well. He was dismissed after scoring only 1 in the 1st T20I against India. He was clean bowled by Arshdeep Singh. He isn’t in good touch with the bat in T20Is of late averaging 17.25 (T20I World Cup 2021), 18 (vs India June 2022), 5.67 (vs England 2022) and 7 (vs Ireland 2022).

The wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock had an excellent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as he finished third in the most runs list after smashing 508 runs in just 15 innings at an impressive strike rate of 148.97. The left-handed batter was brutal with the bat and gave several quick starts to its new franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The southpaw, in fact, registered the highest score of the edition, clobbering 140* off 70 in a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Temba Bavuma

Skipper Temba Bavuma will have the responsibility of occupying the crease from one end and keeping the scoreboard ticking in upcoming India vs South Africa T20Is. Temba Bavuma is a very compact player and has all the shots in his arsenal.

South African captain Temba Bavuma will open in the upcoming T20Is. He was dismissed without scoring despite playing 4 balls as he was bowled by Deepak Chahar. Despite being the captain of the side, Temba Bavuma still has a point to prove as far as his T20 talent is concerned. He got injured during the Proteas’ last India tour in June 2022 managing just 61 runs in 4 T20Is averaging 20.33. He was retired hurt after scoring 8* in the 4th T20I and didn’t play subsequent England and Ireland T20Is.

Reeza Hendricks

Reeza Hendricks didn’t play the 1st T20I but may play the 2nd T20I in place of Rilee Rossouw, who was dismissed without scoring off the first ball he played. Reeza Hendricks scored 57, 53, 70 (against England) before his 74 and 42 (against Ireland). He was the leading run-getter against England, amassing 180 runs in 3 T20Is averaging 60. In 48 T20Is, he has amassed 1372 runs averaging 29.82 with 11 fifties.

Reeza Hendricks hit his fourth successive T20I fifty as South Africa defeated Ireland by 21 runs in their series opener at Bristol on Wednesday. Reeza Hendricks, who hit three half-centuries in the Proteas’ recent 2-1 series win over England, top-scored with 74 in a total of 211-5 and shared a third-wicket partnership of 112 with Aiden Markram (56). He scored 42 in the next match against Ireland.

Aiden Markram is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler from South Africa. Aiden Markram was the 2nd highest run-getter of Proteas in the 1st T20I by scoring 25 crucial runs to help his team recover from 9/5. He was lbw off Harshal Patel.

He has smashed 747 runs and taken 6 wickets in the 24 matches T20I career so far. He has the potential to make an impact with both the bat as well as the ball. He averages an excellent 41.5 in T20Is with the bat and 23.17 with the ball. His last 3 T20I scores against England and Ireland are 51*, 56 and 27. He didn’t feature in the previous T20I series against and in India in June 2022.

In the recently concluded T20I series against England in which Rilee Rossouw made his return to the national team after a six-year hiatus, the left-hander reeled off scores of 4, 96* and 31 as South Africa bounced back from a big defeat in the first game to win the series 2-1. He last played for South Africa in the 2016 T20I World Cup before the recent England series where he managed 131 runs in 3 T20Is averaging 65.5 and was the 3rd highest run-getter.

David Miller

The left-handed batter David Miller was in his prime best during IPL 2022 as he played several match-winning knocks for the champions Gujarat Titans. David Miller is expected to give similar performances for his national team as well in the India vs South Africa T20I series.

David Miller was bowled by Arshdeep Singh playing only 1 ball in the recent 1st T20I against India. He would certainly want to do well in the 2nd T20I. There will be high hopes from David Miller following his exploits for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2022. The attacking left-hander displayed a different kind of maturity, smashing 481 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 142.73. He managed 96 runs averaging 48 in 5 T20Is in June 2022 against India.

Tristan Stubbs

The 21-year-old Tristan Stubbs had impressed everyone with his power-hitting skills in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 Challenge as he scored 293 runs in 7 games at an average of 48.83 and a strike rate of 183.12.

Also, he was roped in by Mumbai Indians (MI) as a replacement for injured Tymal Mills for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. In 7 T20Is, he has scored 119 runs averaging 29.75 but was dismissed without scoring in the 1st T20I against India. The likes of Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, and Heinrich Klassen may play instead of the youngster.

Wayne Parnell

Keshav Maharaj

Keshav Maharaj has 15 wickets in 19 T20Is at an economy rate of 7.19. In the spin department, the bowling duo of Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi will want to choke the flow of runs during the middle overs. He has taken 4 scalps in 5 games averaging 31. In the 1st T20I against India on September 28, 2022, he top-scored with 41 but conceded 21 runs in 3 wicketless overs.

Dwaine Pretorius

Bowling all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius is a handy player. The right-arm pacer has a lot of variations under his sleeve and can bowl a few deadly bouncers as well. With the bat, he can play a few strokes, especially during the death overs. He was with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during IPL 2022 and would have gotten a good idea of Indian conditions so far.

Dwaine Pretorius might look rather innocuous with the ball, but he is a handy pacer, especially at the death with his variations. He did a decent job for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2022, claiming six wickets in as many games. But his economy was on the higher side – 10.

He can also chip in with the bat, which makes him a handy player to have on the team. He may be preferred ahead of spinner Tabraiz Shamsi who conceded 27 runs in 2.4 overs and was wicketless in the 1st T20I. Lungi Ngidi is the other option if Proteas go with more pacers.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada will be South Africa’s pace spearhead in the upcoming T20Is against India. He had a memorable IPL 2022 campaign for the Punjab Kings (PBKS). He was the third-leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 23 wickets in 13 games at a strike rate of 12.52.

He will be key to the Proteas’ fortunes in the T20I series. He had taken 2 scalps in 4 T20Is averaging 43 in the last June 2022 series against India. He dismissed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck as he edged one to Quinton de Kock and recorded figures of 1/16 in 4 overs.

Anrich Nortje

Following a long injury layoff, the pacer Anrich Nortje returned to competitive cricket, representing the franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) during IPL 2022. He claimed nine wickets in six matches and had begun to find his groove towards the latter half of the group stage.

Express pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje will have the responsibility to take wickets during the field restrictions. Both pacers have given some match-winning performances for their country while bowling in tandem and will want to give their level best in front of a strong Indian batting line-up in India vs South Africa T20Is.

He had taken 4 scalps in 5 games averaging 29 in the June 2022 India tour and 1/12 in the only T20I he featured in England tour. He took the prized scalp of Virat Kohli but conceded 32 runs in 3 overs in the 1st T20I against Proteas.
