Indian captain Rohit Sharma was disappointed with the way the Indian team fielded in the first T20I against Sri Lanka. There were as many as three dropped catches in the innings, something that is sub-standard for an international team.

It was Venkatesh Iyer who dropped first, fumbling a straightforward catch of Kamil Mishara in the third over. Just a couple of overs later, Shreyas Iyer misjudged a catch and attempted a futile dive only to grass the ball.

Later on, although the match was well out of Sri Lanka’s hands, Jasprit Bumrah was the culprit as he shelled a catch of Charith Asalanka. Even though it was inconsequential, such drops could prove costly in close matches.

We are dropping a few catches, which is not expected at this level. I guess our fielding coach [T Dilip] has some work to do. We want to be the best fielding side in Australia,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

He is also the record holder for most international centuries. Rohit has scored four hundreds so far in the game, one more than that of West Indian batting legend, Chris Gayle. Guptill is also up there with two centuries to his name.

Notably, Rohit also led the Indian team to their 10th successive win in a row in T20Is. The streak began in last year’s T20 World Cup after the loss to New Zealand in the Super 12 stage.
