IND vs SL: Ashish Nehra Surprised Over Jasprit Bumrah's Recall In Indian Team, Feels Other Players Will Miss Spot In Playing XI

Ashish Nehra is very surprised to see Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the squad in upcoming India vs Sri Lanka T20I series. Bumrah, who was rested during recent India vs West Indies ODI and T20I series, will be part of the three-match T20I and three-match Test series against Sri Lanka.

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, few other pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, and Deepak Chahar got ample opportunities to showcase their bowling strength in the limited-overs series against West Indies. Avesh Khan got a chance to make his international T20I debut while Harshal Patel managed to impress with his bowling spells.

Very Surprised That Jasprit Bumrah is Playing in These T20Is: Ashish Nehra

In a conversation with Cricbuzz, former India pacer Ashish Nehra said that he was surprised to see Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the side in IND vs SL T20I series. Nehra also pointed out that other players will miss the spot with Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion in the playing XI.

“I am very surprised that [Jasprit] Bumrah is playing in this T20Is. Every player wants to play, no doubt, but we have two Tests following this series as well. There are many matches to come. We have so many options among fast bowlers and a significant number of them need game time and confidence,” Ashish Nehra told Cricbuzz.

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan, for example, need more game time. The moment Bumrah returns to the XI, one of these players will have to miss the spot. So I’m surprised that he is playing here,” Ashish Nehra further said.

India is slated to play three T20Is and two Test matches against Sri Lanka. India will be led by Rohit Sharma in both the series while Jasprit Bumrah is the vice-captain. Some key players like Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, KL Rahul, and Mohammed Shami will be absent from the T20I series.

The three T20I games will be played on February 24, 26, and 27. The IND vs SL 1st Test will take place from March 4-8 while the 2nd Test will be played from March 12-16.
