The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly said that Virat Kohli playing 100 Tests is a great moment for him and it’s “momentous for Indian cricket”.

The 33-year-old Kohli has joined an elite list of Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma to play 100 Tests for India National Cricket Team.

Virat Kohli has become the only 12th Indian cricketer to play 100 Test matches. He is playing his 100th Test game under the leadership of Rohit Sharma against Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh, on Friday, March 4.

In a video shared by the BCCI on their official Twitter handle ahead of Kohli’s 100th Test match, Ganguly said that he has himself been part of 100 Test games and he knows how momentous and humongous the occasion can be.

“It’s a huge landmark in Indian cricket, playing 100 Test matches is something that you dream of when you start playing cricket for your country. It’s a great moment for Virat, it’s momentous for Indian cricket,” Ganguly said in his message.

“I have personally been in that 100 Test match situation and I realise how momentous and how humongous the occasion can be.”

Sourav Ganguly further added that Kohli has had a great journey in Test cricket and he has achieved exceptional achievements. Also, Ganguly congratulated Kohli for his landmark 100th Test and said the batter has time left to achieve greater milestones.

“Virat has had a great journey, exceptional achievements, starting 11 years ago. On behalf of the BCCI and also as a former captain who has played 100 Tests, I wish him all the best. He has had a fantastic career. He still has time to achieve greater milestones,” added the former batter.
