Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Indian team have been ruthless in the shortest format. They have managed to win seven consecutive T20 internationals, including two series whitewash against New Zealand and West Indies. They exhibited an all-round performance in the first T20I of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Batting first, India managed to post 199 runs on the board, thanks to valuable contributions from the top three batsmen.

Rohit Sharma scored 44 runs in 32 balls, while Ishan Kishan played a sensational knock of 89 runs in 56 balls. Coming in at number three, Shreyas Iyer was finding it hard to get the timing right initially.

However, he changed gears after playing the first 15 balls of his innings. He went on to score 57 runs in just 28 balls at a strike rate of over 200. His knock was peppered with 5 fours and 2 sixes. India would be wanting a similar start to their innings in the third game as well.

As far as bowling is concerned, they might want to give the opportunity to Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, or Kuldeep Yadav. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled brilliantly in the first game. He picked the wickets of both the openers and gave just 9 runs in 2 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja conceded 28 runs in 4 overs and picked 1 wicket, while Yuvzendra Chahal finished with figures of 1 for 11 in 4 overs. There aren’t a lot of worries for the Indian team and they would be confident of winning the game on Sunday.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, would be mighty disappointed with their performance in the first T20I. They showed little fight in either department on Thursday. The bowling unit looked toothless in front of a strong India batting unit.

Sri Lanka conceded a mammoth score of 199 runs in the first innings. Their three first-choice seamers, namely Chameera (0 for 42), Lahiru Kumara (1 for 43), and C Karunaratne (0 for 46) conceded 131 runs combined in 12 overs with only one wicket to their name.

There is no denying the fact that they will dearly miss the services of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. Both have been ruled out of the series and it has come as a huge blow for the side.

Niroshan Dickwella and Dhananjaya de Silva have been added as replacements. It will be interesting to see if they gets an opportunity.  The likes of Charith Asalanka, Dinesh Chandimal and Dasun Shanaka will form the middle-order. Asalanka scored a half-century in the first game but the other two also need to step up to the plate if Sri Lanka wants to bounce back strongly in the series.
