Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli said that he isn’t bothered about scoring big runs as long as he feels contented with his batting efforts.

Playing in his 100th Test match against Sri Lanka on Day 1, Kohli scored 45 off 76 balls at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium on Friday.

Kohli smashed five boundaries in his 90-run alliance with Hanuma Vihari for the fourth wicket, his innings was brought to end by Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya in the 44th over.

We are somehow crazy about milestones and materialistic achievements: Virat Kohli

Kohli’s international hundred is the talk of the town as he hasn’t reached the three-figure mark for more than two years across all formats. Many experts have constantly reminded him of his prolific run-scoring abilities and fans are awaited for his 71st international hundred.

However, the former Indian skipper said that people are crazy about materialistic achievements but that does not concern him anymore. Kohli also admitted that he was nervous to play his 100th Test match and was disappointed that he couldn’t play big innings in his important game.

“I am preparing as I have always prepared. As long as I am batting well, I am not bothered. We are somehow crazy about milestones and materialistic achievements. It felt like I am making my debut. Had butterflies in my stomach, did feel very nervous,” Kohli told media personnel after the end of the first day’s gameplay. 

“Obviously disappointed as I got a good start. I was batting well. You obviously feel disappointed as a batsman. Endeavour is always to make sure to play a big innings for the team and put the team in a strong position,” he added. 

India ended Day 1 at 357 for six wickets down as Rishabh Pant blasted 96 runs with nine fours and four sixes. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (45) was batting along with his spin bowling partner Ravichandran Ashwin (10).
