Ravichandran Ashwin has overtaken Kapil Dev in the total number of Test wickets during the ongoing India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test in Mohali. Ravichandran Ashwin has become the 2nd highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket with 435 wickets.

In India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test, Ravichandran Ashwin picked 2 wickets in the 1st innings. He dismissed Lahiru Thirimanne and Dhananjaya de Silva, bagging both wickets through LBW. In the 2nd innings, Ravichandran Ashwin picked 3 wickets till tea break on Day 3.

Ravichandran Ashwin Overtakes Kapil Dev To Become India’s Second Highest Wicket Taker In Test Cricket

Former Indian skipper and all-rounder Kapil Dev accounts for 434 wickets in Test cricket in 131 Test matches. Ravichandran Ashwin, who is playing his 85th Test match against Sri Lanka, has reached 435 Test wickets in Test cricket.

Hence, Ashwin is now the 2nd highest wicket-taker for India in Tests. He accounts for 435 wickets in 85 Tests at an average of 24.29. Overall, the right-arm spinner is the 10th highest wicket-taker in Tests. Anil Kumble is the highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 619 wickets in 132 Test matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin managed to surpass Kapil Dev on the list after dismissing Charith Asalanka with a catch. Ashwin’s delivery got an outside edge of Asalanka. The ball hit wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s thighs and bounced away to Virat Kohli at slips, who managed to grab the catch after multiple juggling.

Earlier, Ashwin also dismissed Lahiru Thirimanne and Pathum Nissanka in the 2nd innings. India has reached a dominant position in the IND vs SL 1st Test. Batting first, India slammed a mammoth total of 574-8 (d) on the scoreboard.

Later, they restricted Sri Lanka to just 174 all-out and gave them a follow-on. In the 2nd innings, Sri Lanka has lost 7 wickets for 130 runs and is on the verge of defeat. Ravindra Jadeja has shown an impeccable performance in the match, smacking 175 runs and picking 5 wickets in the 1st innings.
