IND vs SL: Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin Are A Lethal Combination, Says Gautam Gambhir

Cricket commentator Gautam Gambhir lauded Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja and said that they can become a lethal combination. Gambhir also said that he would want to see Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin play together away from home too.

Gautam Gambhir’s words arrive after both the spin-all rounders gave an outstanding batting performance in India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test in Mohali. Jadeja slammed a marvelous unbeaten 175 while Ravichandran Ashwin score 61 runs. Both of them also stitched a 130-run stand for the 7th wicket, to take India to a mammoth total in the 1st innings.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin Are A Lethal Combination: Gautam Gambhir

While speaking to Star Sports, former India opener Gautam Gambhir said that he would want to see Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin perform together at foreign soils.

“I would want to see R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja play together away from home – whether it is South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, or England. We say at times that two spinners cannot play together but if you have two such quality spinners and Jadeja can give you quality batting like this at No. 7, then there is no problem in that,” Gambhir said.

The former left-handed batsman also said that Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin can become a lethal combination if they get slight help from the pitch.

“To win a Test match you need to pick 20 wickets. Test cricket is not just the game of the first innings and wherever you go, the ball starts turning in the third or fourth innings. Ashwin and Jadeja are both bowlers who can bat as well, it can give you an exceptional attack. You can control the game also and give breaks to your fast bowlers as well. Along with that, even if there is a slight help from the pitch, Jadeja and Ashwin can become a lethal combination”, added Gambhir.

In addition to their impressive knocks, Ashwin and Jadeja also picked up a few wickets in India vs Sri Lanka’s 1st Test. On Day 2, Ravindra Jadeja grabbed 1 wicket while Ashwin accounted for 2 wickets.

In the 1st innings, India declared at a mammoth total of 574-8. Other than Jadeja and Ashwin, Rishabh Pant played an outstanding knock of 96 runs while Hanuma Vihari scored 58. Till the stumps of day 2, Sri Lanka reached 108-4 on the board and trailed by 466 runs.
