Indian skipper Rohit Sharma fielded the same XI in the second T20I against Sri Lanka. He won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first in Dharmasala. India are eyeing another series win, while the Lankans need to win this match to keep the series alive.

In the second T20I, Rohit Sharma got himself to an achievement as he took the catch of Dinesh Chandimal off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah. Chandimal’s catch was the 50th of his T20I career which now takes him to the top among Indian players with most catches in T20I cricket.

Virat Kohli (43) and Suresh Raina (42) are next in line with most catches in the format. Hardik Pandya with 34 catches to his name is fourth on this list. None of these players interestingly are a part of this playing XI at the moment.

This is the second of the three T20Is between the two sides. The third and final game will be played on Sunday (February 27). Sri Lanka finished at a competitive 183/5 in their 20 overs. Skipper Dasun Shanaka played a cameo of 19-ball 44. The Lankans scored 77 of their last four overs. Shanaka smacked 23 off the final over from Harshal Patel.

Pathum Nissanka after getting dismissed for a duck in the first game, anchored the Lankan innings in the second. He scored a career-best of 75 runs off 53 balls. He added a 67-run opening stand with Danushka Gunathilaka (38) to set the pace for his side.

Nissanka again added a 58-run partnership for the fifth wicket with his skipper which provided Sri Lanka to finish on a high. The Lanka batsman made the most of the batting opportunity in the second game after missing out on the first.

“It was difficult against the swinging new ball. So, we decided to take our time and then go after the bowlers. I think we have got a very competitive score. We’re looking at giving a good start, particular;y in the first 6 overs. The plan is not to lose any wickets, get around 45 runs and in the end Dasun (Shanaka) did a very good job” Gunathilaka said about how the wicket played in the mid-innings break.
