Shreyas Iyer is in the form of his life since making a return to the Indian national team. He scored a match-winning 80 in the third ODI against West Indies. Now, in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, he ended as the top run-getter in the series with 204 runs in three matches and was not dismissed even once during the series. He also scored consecutive fifties batting at number three,

Former Indian selector and cricketer Saba Karim is impressed by Shreyas Iyer’s consistent run-scoring so far. He said Iyer has reinvented his game which is why he is scoring to all parts of the ground.

“Shreyas Iyer has reinvented his game. If you look at the pattern of his game, it becomes evidently clear. We call Suryakumar Yadav a 360-degree player but I was looking at Shreyas’ wagon-wheel in the three matches against Sri Lanka. If you leave the area behind the keeper, he has scored runs everywhere,” the former India wicketkeeper said on Khelneeti Podcast.

While complimenting the right-hander for his success, Saba Karim has also made him aware of the bigger challenges ahead of him. He said that Iyer will need to score runs against quality attacks in the future wherein lies the challenge. Previously Aakash Chopra included the right-hander in his probable list of batsmen for the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.

“He has found his template to score runs. Having said that, there are bigger challenges ahead for him as you’ll be up against top-quality bowling attacks. With all due respect, Sri Lanka are a weak team. Their bowlers don’t have much experience,” he added.

India will play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka with the first Test in Mohali starting from March 4. This is also Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match of his red-ball career.
