Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has decided to allow full capacity crowd in for the upcoming second Test between India and Sri Lanka in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The match, which is a day-night affair, will begin from March 12 onwards with the Indian team leading the two-Test series 1-0.

The first match of the series was played at the IS Bindra Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali, Punjab which saw 50% crowd capacity for what was former captain Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match. Initially, the match was to be played behind closed doors, but after outrage from fans and former cricketers, the BCCI allowed a crowd in the stadium as per government regulations.

India won the Test match by an innings and 222 runs with Virat Kohli scoring 45 runs in the only innings India batted. Ravindra Jadeja was the Player of the Match for his 175* and 9 wickets in the match as Sri Lanka was bundled out for 174 and 178 in response to the home team’s 574/8d.

Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Revises Crowd Capacity From 50% To 100% Due To High Response And Demand For Tickets At M Chinnaswamy Stadium: Reports

ESPNCricinfo reported that the decision to increase the crowd capacity from 50% to 100% comes following approval from the state government to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). One reason for the high demand is that Bengaluru is like the second home for Virat Kohli, who plays for the Bengaluru-based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise- Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

ESPNCricinfo also reported that increased demand for tickets led to the association seeking the government’s approval. KSCA treasurer Vinay Mrithyunjaya has revealed that nearly 10,000 tickets thrown open to the general public have been sold out for the first two days.

“Considering the high volume of response and since there are no further restrictions for spectators, KSCA will be opening up sale of tickets for the full capacity of the stadium,” stated an official release from the association.

The state cricket association also opened additional tickets from Friday to cope with the surge in demand. Bengaluru is hosting a Test for the first time since Afghanistan played its inaugural game in the city in June 2018.

It was supposed to host the first Test of the series which would have been Virat Kohli’s 100th Test but was later slotted in to host the tour ender as it would help facilitate a direct flight back home to Colombo for the visiting Sri Lankans.
