IND vs SL: Ravichandran Ashwin Close To Complete Recovery, Likely To Be Available For 1st Test vs SL

Indian premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is well and truly on the road to full recovery and is very likely going to be available for the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

Ashwin was named in the Test squad along with Jayant Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja as the other spin options. However, his participation was based on him being able to clear the fitness tests. As per a report in Cricbuzz, Ashwin is recovering quickly and could feature in the playing XI.

Although the 34-year-old has made a comeback to the white-ball side, he was unavailable for the entire West Indies white-ball games due to an injury.

As for the squad, there were quite a few changes since the last Test in Cape Town. Senior players, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha, and Ishant Sharma have been shown the door for the time being.

Both Pujara and Rahane have returned to the domestic scene to regain lost form. As for Saha, he was told that his services won’t be needed anymore as the management is looking to groom a younger keeper in KS Bharat.

Hanuma Vihari, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill are likely to play in the middle-order. After Virat Kohli’s resignation as the Test captain, Rohit Sharma was elevated to the position. He is likely to be a temporary captain as India looks to groom Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah for the role of the skipper.
