In the second innings, Shreyas Iyer scored brilliant 67 runs off 87 balls, including 9 fours to become the first Indian to achieve the remarkable milestone.

In the history of Day-Night Tests, Iyer is the only fourth cricketer to smash 50+ scores in both innings of a match. Other players who have achieved this sensational landmark are Darren Bravo (87 & 116 against Pakistan in Dubai, 2016), Steve Smith (130 & 63 against Pakistan in Brisbane, 2016) and Marnus Labuschagne (143 & 50 against New Zealand in Perth, 2019 and 103 & 51 against England in Adelaide 2021).

Iyer, who fell just 8 runs short of a well-deserved century in the pink-ball Test match, said that he felt like his half-century was a hundred. He elaborated:

“I personally felt that fifty was like a century. That’s why I celebrated like that. It was like a century feeling for me.

“You saw the players who defended the ball, there was a lot of chance of nicking, and there was variable bounce on that wicket. You can’t just play very negatively on that wicket and just keep defending the ball. You’ve got to have that positive intent when you step out on the field. The wicket is not that great. It’s obviously bowler-friendly.”
