IND vs SL: What Could Be A Better Opportunity Than 100th Test? - Wasim Jaffer Hopeful Of Seeing Virat Kohli's 71st Hundred

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer expressed his desire to see Indian batter, Virat Kohli, score his long-awaited 71st international hundred in his milestone 100th Test, against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

Kohli’s last century came back in November 2019 against Bangladesh. Since then, he hasn’t converted plenty of his fifties, something very uncharacteristic of the great batter. Nevertheless, he will not get a better opportunity than his 100th Test to get back to his old self.

“It’s his 100th Test. We keep talking about how Virat Kohli hasn’t scored a hundred in international cricket in two years. What could be a better opportunity than this? Such a great occasion – 100th Test in Mohali. I feel him leaving the captaincy will definitely help him.”

“The break he got in the T20 series, he’ll come here with a refreshed mind. We all are eagerly waiting to see the old Virat, who, when he scores one hundred keeps scoring hundreds. There couldn’t be a better opportunity to start than his 100th Test,” Jaffer told in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo.

Jaffer further mentioned that Kohli is quite the character on the field. His aggression reverberates throughout the team and it lifts them up, especially during tough phases in Test matches. Under him, India has attained new heights on away tours.

“He has a lot of specialties but I feel his attitude separates him from the rest. His feisty character, a will to fight one-on-one as a batter irrespective of the bowler, opposition, or the conditions. I feel this fighting spirit as a batter and as a leader separates him from the rest,” Jaffer added.

Although Kohli isn’t the leader in any of the formats, his notions will be of importance to first-time Test captain, Rohit Sharma.
