Regular team captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant have no place in the T20 lineup as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the roster for the forthcoming assignment. The first three T20Is in the series will feature Hardik Pandya as the team’s captain in the shortest format.

The ODI series will begin on January 10 in Guwahati, and Rohit will be back to captain the team. However, he will have a new deputy for the 50-over series because KL Rahul was replaced as the ODI vice-captain in the team that was revealed on Tuesday.

Hardik Pandya Takes Over From KL Rahul As Rohit Sharma’s Deputy

Since Rohit took over the captaincy responsibilities, KL Rahul has filled in as his deputy when he was available, however, he has since been ousted. All-arounder Hardik Pandya has been elevated to vice-captain of the Indian men’s ODI squad in his spot. In ODI matches against South Africa in January 2022 and Zimbabwe in August 2022, Rahul captained India in Rohit’s absence. Rahul has since been reduced to the position of wicketkeeper-batsman, though.

Hardik has commanded India in six T20Is to this far, but not an ODI squad. In addition to T20Is, the BCCI is reportedly thinking of making him the permanent captain of ODIs. Additionally, his elevation to vice-captain is a definite sign that the BCCI strategy is on track.

The three One Day Internationals between the two Asian juggernauts will be played on January 10, 12, and 15, respectively, at Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kolkata.
