IND vs SL: 3 Players Better Than VVS Laxman Who Can Be India’s Next Head Coach. VVS Laxman is touted as the next Indian cricket teams’ Head Coach after Rahul Dravid, but there are 3 other former Indian cricketers who can be named as India’s next head coach.
With Team India’s exit from the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, Rahul Dravid and other senior India players have rested for the Tour of New Zealand 2022. Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman coached India in the three-match T20I and ODI series.
This was not the first time that VVS Laxman has been elevated to the role of India’s head coach. He previously essayed the role of a coach for India during the tours of Zimbabwe and Ireland and the recent ODI home series against South Africa.
Rahul Dravid was blamed for losing the ODI series against 7th-ranked Bangladesh. Team India’s last memorable series was in England in June, where they won both ODI and T20Is series but ever since August 2022, it has been all downhill. India’s shortcomings were exposed when they failed to reach the final of the Asia Cup 2022 and then endured yet another semifinal defeat to England in a one-sided contest in the T20 World Cup 2022.

Anil Kumble was appointed as India’s head coach in June 2016 for a one-year term by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC); however, the tenure was cut short following his trouble with Virat Kohli. At the time several reports had cited differences between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble as the major reason behind his sacking as head coach.
The captain and head coach were reportedly not on the same page which led to the controversial sacking. But after Virat Kohli relinquished his role as captain, Anil Kumble may be reappointed as the coach again after the likes of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid.
Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri was made the coach in 2017. The former cricketer took the Asian giants to the top of the Test rankings with Virat Kohli as the captain. Although the odds of his re-appointment are very little, Ravi Shastri could be given the opportunity based on his man management and his ability to gel well with young players.
Ravi Shastri had initially become the director of the Indian cricket team in 2014 for a period of eight months from India’s tour of England till the 2015 World Cup, alongside Duncan Fletcher. He then had sole responsibility till 2016 and the 2016 World T20 saw the Men in Blue reach the semifinals again.
The team also briefly held the No 1 rank in Tests around February 2016. Ravi Shastri was removed in 2016 when Anil Kumble took over but on July 13, 2017, he was appointed officially the head coach of the Men in Blue, reuniting with Virat Kohli to forge a vibrant partnership. Ravi Shastri’s tenure as the head coach ended with the national side’s exit from the 2021 T20 World Cup, in the UAE. He may be the Indian coach again after the likes of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid.
MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni is the most successful Indian captain in the history of the game. The 41-year-old has won three major titles – 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy as well as a hoard of bilateral trophies. Although MS Dhoni hasn’t managed a team yet, his decision-making in the game and success point toward Indian team coaching in the future.
MS Dhoni is expected to retire after the IPL 2023, and take on a mentorship role with a specialized set of players. It is too taxing a task for Rahul Dravid to manage the three format teams all at once. MS Dhoni may become the next Indian coach after the likes of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid but it would be possible only after his retirement post-conclusion of IPL 2023.
