Rohit Sharma became the T20I captain in 2021 during the home series against New Zealand and later in the year, he replaced Virat Kohli to become the ODI skipper. However, he has been plagued by injuries since then and he has also not played any part in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh.

1. Not Much Experience

Hardik Pandya has been exceptional as a T20I skipper in the limited opportunities provided to him. He led India in the 2 T20Is against Ireland and India won both by 7 wickets and 4 runs. India won by 88 runs against West Indies and 65 runs against New Zealand while one match against the Kiwis was tied under his captaincy.

He isn’t though much experienced as a skipper in the international arena and has only captained Gujarat Titans to victory in IPL 2022- his first as skipper in IPL. So, for that reason, he may not be an ideal T20I skipper.

2. Pressure On Performance

India needs Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder. If he’s assigned permanent captaincy, his form may be hampered. In the 5 T20Is he captained, he has scored 108 runs averaging 36 with a highest of only 30*. He has also picked only 1 wicket averaging a high 63.

3. Availability Of Senior Players

The 29-year-old Hardik Pandya will be surrounded by a group of veteran cricketers like Rohit Sharma (35 years), Virat Kohli (34 years), Shikhar Dhawan (37 years), Ravichandran Ashwin (36 years), Suryakumar Yadav (32 years), Ravindra Jadeja (34 years), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (32 years), Yuzvendra Chahal (32 years), Dinesh Karthik (37 years) and Mohammed Shami (32 years). Hardik Pandya may find it hard to communicate with senior Indian players if he’s assigned permanent captaincy.
