After consecutive losses in the World Cup semi-final and the ODI series in Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has chosen to organize a performance review meeting for its senior men’s side.

In addition to BCCI officials like president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah, the meeting will be held on Sunday in Mumbai and will be joined by head coach Rahul Dravid, NCA director VVS Laxman, captain Rohit Sharma, and departing selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma.

BCCI Desperate To Get Results In ICC Events

There is no indication that Virat Kohli, a former captain, has been invited to attend the summit. The gathering takes place two days before Team India’s domestic season gets underway in Mumbai with a T20 series against Sri Lanka.

The humbling loss to seventh-ranked Bangladesh in the ODIs in a World Cup year has caused the BCCI to act in a certain way, as if the embarrassment at the hands of England in the T20 World Cup semi-final wasn’t terrible enough. Since 2013, India hasn’t triumphed in an ICC competition, but the BCCI is desperate to change that.

The blueprint for the years ahead is anticipated to be reviewed along with an investigation into the causes of their missteps, sources told The Telegraph. Deliberation may possibly have gone into India’s failure to go to the final at the Asia Cup.

In addition to Dravid, Laxman has served as acting head coach whenever the former has taken a sabbatical or has been involved with the Test side.

Discussion On Players Breaking Down After Being All Clear By The NCA

Laxman’s participation is especially relevant in light of Board President Binny’s worries over workload management and major player injuries prior to crucial events. The former India batsman would be able to describe the reasons behind these injuries and the corrective actions that must be taken in his capacity as NCA chairman.

“Players have often broken down after being given the all clear by the NCA. Jasprit Bumrah has been the latest victim. We need to discuss these things in detail and also talk to the team management with an open mind,” a BCCI official told The Telegraph.

At the meeting, the BCCI is also anticipated to address the leadership issue. The 35-year-old Rohit will continue to serve as captain through the domestic World Cup, but Hardik Pandya is currently being developed with the 2024 T20 World Cup in mind. In the 50-over format, the all-rounder has also been given the vice-captaincy position.

Seniors being phased out of the T20 format is another topic of discussion. Although it is unclear if it will be discussed, there is also a discussion about hiring a coach just for the shortest format.

During the T20 World Cup, the team’s tactics came under fire for a number of things, including their inability to play courageous cricket and their frequent XI switching. They paid a high price for not playing a wrist spinner in Australia.

India’s losses in the ICC event knockout rounds have caused anxiety for a while now.
