IND vs SL: Dinesh Karthik Wants Team India To Continue Their Attacking Approach In T20Is

The 37-year-old India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has said that Team India should continue playing their attacking brand of cricket in T20Is despite the defeat in the Pune T20I against Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka.

India National Cricket Team lost the second T20I of the three-match series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team on Thursday, January 5, by 16 runs. While chasing 207, batters kept hitting and India were reduced to 34/4 and soon to 57/5. Then, Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav stitched up a remarkable partnership of 91 runs in 40 balls, but it was not enough for India to earn a win.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said India playing with the attacking approach and losing the game is far better than playing with a conservative approach and finishing on the losing side. He said:

“I feel Team India are better off doing what they just did today, going all guns blazing at the start, losing some wickets, and then losing the game at the end, rather than playing steady without losing wickets.

“[It is] a template that we have been playing for some time now, and stack up lot through the middle and the end and then expect that to happen. We have had that and I feel we didn’t have the success we need.”

The mindset needs to shift – Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik further said that India’s approach of playing cautiously in the initial part of the innings and then exploding towards the end is not good. He said that India have a lot of venom in their batting department and to make the best utilisation of every batter there is a need for a change in mindset.

He elaborated: “I still feel if we get through this mindset of going hammer and tongs at the start, and then solidifying through the middle and then finishing strong is the best way to get the best out of our batting.

“I feel we have a lot of venom in our batting, but for that to come through totally, the mindset needs to shift. We rather go down trying that way, than keep it to the end and then we succumb under pressure in crunch games.”
