Reetinder Singh Sodhi, a former cricketer, has heaped admiration on Hardik Pandya for inspiring Team India to a surprising 2-1 T20I series victory against Sri Lanka.

Host India will now play Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series beginning on Tuesday, January 10, when the T20I series is over. KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli will all play again in this format.

Hardik Pandya, the stand-in skipper, appeared to be having a below-par game by his standards until he picked up a couple of wickets in the match on Saturday. He had gone wicketless in the previous two games and had struggled with the bat.

In the first game of the series, despite having one more over remaining from his allotment, he forced Axar to bowl the final over, and the bowler lived up to the captain’s expectations by successfully defending 12 runs. In the second match, Pandya didn’t fulfil all of his obligations, but in the series finale, Pandya excelled.

“Hardik Pandya used his resources brilliantly”: Sodhi 

Sodhi made note of Pandya’s willingness to put the squad in an awkward situation during the just-completed home series. He noted that the talismanic all-rounder has the potential to be a great leader because of his daring approach.

“I believe he has what it takes. He is a fearless campaigner. He used his resources brilliantly. He’s a guy who’s not afraid to take risks. He is aware that India has struggled in some sectors,” Sodhi told India News Sports on Sunday, January 8.

“He willingly put the team in those unpleasant positions. It demonstrates that he is not afraid to confront challenges,” Reetinder Singh Sodhi added.

The series began with an exciting two-run triumph for the Hardik Pandya-led Indian team over Sri Lanka. While they lost the following game by a score of 16 runs, they recovered to win the crucial championship game by a score of 91 runs.
