IND vs SL: Ravichandran Ashwin Reveals Hilarious Conversation Between Rishabh Pant-Vikram Rathour During 2nd Test vs Bangladesh

Ravichandran Ashwin’s heroics with the bat helped India win a famous Test match against Bangladesh in Dhaka and complete a 2-0 clean sweep in a Test series against the Tigers. The series win has still kept India alive in the WTC final race. 

Ravichandran Ashwin scored an unbeaten 42 and added an unbeaten 71-run stand with India struggling at 74-7. With him was Shreyas Iyer (29 * off 46) at the other end. The duo first weathered the spin challenge from Bangladesh and with 16 needed to win Ashwin clobbered Mehify Hasan for two fours and a six to win the game for India.

India needing 145 to win in the second innings lost the wickets of KL Rahul (2), Shubman Gill (7), and Virat Kohli (1) in quick succession on day 2. Ashwin in a recent video on his Youtube channel spoke about how the team management panicked before sending Jydev Unadkat as the nightwatchman. Kohli being dismissed for 1 prompted India to send a nightwatchman in Jaydev Unadkat.

The spinner revealed how India’s batting coach took turns and asked the batters if they needed a night watchman. While Kohli denied it, Pant’s reply had Aswin in splits. He revealed the same conversation in his Youtube video. 

“Vikram Paaji asked Kohli whether he needed a night watchman. Kohli said that he will take care and didn’t need a night watchman. Rishabh Pant will usually keep the towel on top of his head and will lie down on the table. I don’t know the exact reason for him doing that,” Ashwin began the story on his official YouTube channel.

He further said how Rishabh Pant’s funny reply to Vikram’s question had the Indian spinner laughing his heart out.

“Vikram Rathour asked ‘Virat said he didn’t need a night watchman. Do you need?”. (Pant replied) ‘I need watchmen throughout the night. I will go and play tomorrow.’

“I couldn’t stop laughing when he said that casually. When I was extremely nervous, there he was relaxed and cracking a joke,” Ashwin said.

The Indian off-spinner later said, “Rathour Bhai was like, “We have only Jaydev Unadkat left. Who else should we send?” Pant was like, “Send Ash Bhai, or send whoever you want. I will go bat tomorrow” Ashwin further added.

The Indian spinner will be a crucial player when India hosts Australia for a four-Test match series at home next year. The series will mark the end of the 2021-23 WTC cycle.
