IND vs SL: Watch – Axar Patel Takes A Blinder To Dismiss Chamika Karunaratne For 17

The 28-year-old India National Cricket Team left-arm spinner Axar Patel pulled off a near-blinder to dismiss the 26-year-old Sri Lanka National Cricket Team bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne in the second ODI on Thursday, January 12.

The second ODI of the three-match series between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team is currently underway at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne got dismissed on the final ball of the 34th over of the first innings as Sri Lanka lost their 8th wicket. He only managed to contribute 17 runs with the bat off 25 balls and his innings consisted of 3 boundaries.

The express pacer Umran Malik bowled a 144.3kph short-of-a-length delivery to Karunaratne just outside off-stump and the Sri Lanka batter played a punch shot off the back foot. There was an extra bounce on the delivery, Karunaratne failed to keep it down and Axar Patel, at the backward point, dived to his left to grab a great catch with both hands.

Sri Lanka Face Batting Collapse After A Decent Start

Avishka Fernando opened the innings with debutant Nuwanidu Fernando in the absence of Pathum Nissanka. The Lankan opening duo managed to add 29 runs together in 36 balls before Mohammed Siraj broke the partnership by dismissing Avishka in the 6th over for 20.

Then, Nuwanidu Fernando and Kusal Mendis led the Lankan Team to recovery and stitched up a brilliant 73 runs partnership in 66 balls. However, Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel as well as express pacer Umran Malik bagged wickets at regular intervals to help India make a comeback in the match.

After getting off to a decent start in the match, Sri Lanka faced a batting collapse and at the time of writing, they were reduced to 209/8 in 39 overs with Dunith Wellalage and Kasun Rajitha out in the middle.
