India vs Sri Lanka: IND Playing 11 for SL, 1st T20I. India takes on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series starting with the first T20I in Mumbai on January 3. The next two T20Is will be played on January 5 (Pune) and January 7 (Rajkot). The three ODI games are scheduled to take place on January 10, 12, and 15 in Guwahati, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram. 

Both India and Sri Lanka have announced their squads for the IND vs SL 2023 series. Rohit Sharma leads India in ODIs while Hardik Pandya leads in the T20I series. Dasun Shanaka is the skipper of Sri Lanka in both the ODI and T20I series.

India and Sri Lanka last faced each other in Asia Cup 2022. During the super 12 round, Sri Lanka gave a big blow to India by defeating them by 6 wickets in the match. As a result, India also failed to reach Asia Cup 2022 final. Later, Sri Lanka also won the final after defeating Pakistan in the final.

The BCCI has named a young T20I side keeping in mind the roadmap of the team for the future in mind. The likes of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav now become the core of the side. Rishabh Pant’s unfortunate accident has opened up the keeper’s slot. Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are the two keepers in the squad.

The bowling attack also looks good with the return of Yuzvendra Chahal back into the T20I side. The spinner was benched throughout the T20 World Cup with Axar Patel playing ahead of him. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami are out of the picture now in T20Is. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja continue to remain out of the side still recovering from their respective injuries.

Kishan is likely to open the batting in the first T20I. He is fresh off his maiden ODI double ton against Bangladesh in the recently concluded ODI series. Kishan might also don the gloves keeping Sanju Samson out of the XI.
