For Team India it was a clinical performance with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gil scoring runs and Virat Kohli scoring his 45th ODI ton. The top-order scoring runs in the very first ODI game of 2023 are a great sign of things to come for Team India. The bowling was well-controlled by Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj who shared five wickets between themselves.

However, the team have their share of injury issues with Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja out injured. Rishabh Pant is also out of the team owing to his unfortunate injury. Jasprit Bumrah who was added to India’s ODI squad for the SL series was ruled out of the series just before the first ODI The BCCI confirmed the update on Monday, January 9 after a close discussion with an NCA staff. Skipper Rohit also said that they do not want to rush with the pacer given that he will be key for the World Cup.

Thanks to India’s strong bench strength they have good enough players to replace the ones who are missing. Given that India won the first ODI convincingly, they are unlikely to make any changes to the XI.

Sri Lanka made a comeback in the T20I series after losing the first ODI. It will be interesting to see if they can do that in the ODIs as well. They need to develop their overall game and come out with a better performance in the next game.

The top-order needs to chip in with a better effort and ensure that they set up the game for the side just like the Indian natters did in the first ODI. All eyes will be on Dasun Shanaka and if he can replicate his batting form in the second ODI as well.

All the bowlers were expensive in the first ODI, They need to work on their performances considerably as well to help their team win the game and level the series. They were outplayed in the first game and need to come back hard in the second. They can ponder over making some changes in the XI.

The bowling attack looks well-balanced as well with Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana as the spin twins. Dilshan Madhushanka will lead the attack in the absence of Dushmantha Chameera. Sri Lanka can bring back Lahiru Kumara in the ODIs after they kept him on the bench throughout the T20I series.
