Deepak Hooda (41*) and Axar Patel (31*) added 68 together to take the Indian score past 160. The side was 94/5 in the 15th over at one point. Shivam Mavi then on his debut picked 4/22 to help India win the game. The pacer became the third Indian bowler to take four wickets on his T20I debut. Axar Patel after scoring 31 with the bat defended 13 off the final over.
Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals in the chase. It was skipper Dasun Shanaka who stepped up once again as he scored 45 off 27 balls to take his side close to a win. His dismissal in the 17th over, turned the game in India’s favour. Sri Lanka must win the second T20I to keep the series alive.
