Team England suffered a huge blow as the red-ball captain Joe Root was hit in the abdomen during the throwdowns in the warm-up session ahead of the play on Day 4 of the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval and he missed the start of the play.

After winning the Ashes opener at the Gabba, Brisbane by 9 wickets Australia performed amazingly in the day-night Test at Adelaide Oval despite the unavailability of skipper Pat Cummins and speedster Josh Hazlewood.

Meanwhile, England’s struggle continued as they looked miserable in both the batting and bowling department.

Cricket.com.au through an official statement informed that Root was being assessed by the medical team after being hit in the abdomen.

England captain Joe Root will not be on the field at the start of play today after being hit in the abdomen during throwdowns in the warm-up before play. He is currently being assessed by the England medical team,” Cricket.com.au said in a statement.

Talking about the day-night Test, Team Australia won the toss and opted to bat first and scored 473 runs at the loss of 9 wickets. Batters David Warner and Steve Smith scored over 90 runs but failed to score a century. However, Marnus Labuschagne completed his century.

Meanwhile, England openers once again failed and only Joe Root and Dawid Malan played good knocks and England were bundled out for 236. Australia despite having a good lead opted to bat in the second innings and at Stumps on Day 3, they were at 45/1 and were leading by 282 runs.

At the start of Day 4, Australia lost some early wickets but Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head smashed the fifties to help Australia extend the lead over 400 runs.
