England take on Australia in the fourth Test of the Ashes 2021-22 series at Sydney Cricket Ground, scheduled to be played from 5th January to 9th January 2022. England have already lost the series as they are currently trailing by a 3-0 margin with two more Tests to go.

Joe Root and Co. exhibited a below-par performance in the last game, having lost it by an innings and 14 runs. England batted first and were bowled out for just 185 runs. Pat Cummins ran through England’s top-order, before Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc removed the middle and lower order. Joe Root played a 50-run knock off 82, Jonny Bairstow (35 off 75) showed some resilience. But other than that, there weren’t a lot of contributions.

England, however, bowled at great lengths and didn’t allow Australians to put a big total on the board. Riding on Jimmy Anderson’s 4 for 33, Australia were bowled out for 267 in the second innings. Marcus Harris top-scored with the bat, amassing 76 off 189. The Rest of the batsmen were guilty of not converting the starts.

England could have made a comeback from there but the batting yet again disappointed the fans. England succumbed to Scott Boland’s magical spell as they got bowled out for just 68 runs. Barring Joe Root (28 off 59) and Ben Stokes (11 off 16), all the players got out on single-digit scores. Scott Boland made outstanding returns as he picked 6 wickets for just 7 runs in 4 overs.

In just 12 days Australia already have retained the urn. The Aussies currently lead the five-match series by a 3-0 margin and would be eying on a series whitewash. Josh Hazlewood is likely to make a comeback in the fourth Test. However, after witnessing Scott Bolland’s spell, it will be difficult to exclude from the playing eleven. Besides, Travis Head will miss the Test due to Covid and Usman Khawaja should replace him in the playing XI.
