England square up against Australia in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes 2021-22 series in Hobart. Australia won the first three Tests but couldn’t win the fourth one as it resulted in a draw. Australia batted first in the fourth Test and managed to score a formidable 416 in the first innings.

Usman Khawaja, starred with the bat, as he played a sensational knock of 137 runs off 260 deliveries. Steven Smith also played a vital 67-run knock in 141 deliveries. For England, Stuart Broad picked his maiden five-wicket haul in the series.

England, in reply, were bundled out for 294 runs. They got off to the worst possible start after losing the first four wickets for just 36 runs. However, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow then led a fantastic recovery as the duo added 128 runs for the fifth wicket. Jonny Bairstow scored his maiden ton of the series, while Stokes got out after scoring 66 off 91.

Khawaja then notched his second consecutive hundred in the game during Australia’s second innings. He remained unbeaten at 101 in 138 balls and helped his team declare the innings at 265 for 6, setting a target of 388 runs.

England knew they couldn’t chase down the total on the last day, however, they managed to draw the Test in the end. Australia needed only 1 one wicket in the final 12 balls but James Anderson and Stuart Broad played six balls each to deny Australia their fourth consecutive win of the series.
