England and Australia take on each other in the second Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval Ground, starting tomorrow. Australia put in a dominating performance in the first Test and beat England comprehensively by 9 wickets.

Playing his first Test as captain, Pat Cummins picked a five-wicket haul in the first innings to bundle England out for just 147 runs. His allies, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc picked two wickets each. Skipper Joe Root began his Ashes 2021-22 campaign with a duck, while Ben Stokes announced his comeback with 5 off 21 balls. Jos Buttler looked good for his 35 off 79 but couldn’t go on to play a big knock for the team.

Australia were superb equally with the bat as they amassed 425 runs in the second innings. Warner scored 94 off 176. Marnus Labuschagne too was brilliant for his 74 off 117 balls. However, the one who stole the show was Travis Head, who amassed 152 off 148 deliveries. With such a huge deficit, England needed a good start in their second innings but they didn’t get one.

Haseeb Hameed (27 off 58) and Rory Burns (13 off 27) got the starts but couldn’t convert those into big scores. The most inspiring phase was the partnership between Joe Root and Dawid Malan. The duo added 162 runs for the third wicket and led the team’s recovery. Root scored 89 runs off 165 balls, while Malan added 82 off 195. Unfortunately, both couldn’t score centuries and got out at the wrong time. The rest of the batsmen didn’t take a lot of time to get out as England got bowled out for 297 runs in the second innings.

Australia needed only 20 runs to chase down in the fourth innings and thereby win the Test. Pat Cummins and Co. chased it down with 9 wickets in hand.

Ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, England have announced their 12-man squad. Both Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson have returned, while Mark Wood has been dropped. As far as Australia is concerned, there is one change. Josh Hazlewood misses out due to injury and Jhye Richardson replaces him in the eleven.
