Legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said that he is surprised to see that both Usman Khawaja and Travis Head have been named in Australia’s squad for the first two Ashes 2021-22 Test games against England.

The marquee Ashes 2021-22 series is less than a month away, and all the cricket pundits are excited to see the top two sides England and Australia, compete in the purest form of the game. Meanwhile, the first Test match of the series is all set to begin from December 8 at iconic Gabba in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Australia named a 15-member squad for the first two Tests.

The Queensland captain Usman Khawaja who has been in brilliant form in the Sheffield Shield, and Travis Head both have been added to Australia’s squad for the first two Test matches against England, and they will be fighting for the middle-order spot.

Even When He Got Left Out, I Still Felt He Was In Australia’s Top Six Batters – Ricky Ponting On Usman Khawaja

Pointing feels that Khawaja, who played his last Test for Australia in 2019 and got dropped, was among the top six batters of Australia.

I was actually a bit surprised that they named the two (Khawaja and Head). If they haven’t made a decision on it yet, I’m not sure how much clearer it’s going to get over the next period of time,” cricket.com.au quoted Ponting as saying.

I’m rapt for Khawaja. I’ve been on record a few times that even when he got left out, I still felt he was in Australia’s top six batters. Just reading between the lines, it would seem strange to go back to someone like him and not play him,” he added.
