In Test Cricket one doesn’t expect the number 11 batsman to show resilience at the crease. Usually, the number 11 batsman lacks the technique to survive for a longer period at the crease. The bowling unit doesn’t have to work hard to get him out.

The arrival of the number 11 batsman means that the innings of the batting side is likely to end soon. However, there have been occasions when the number 11 batsman held firm at one end and went on to score big runs for the team. Former South African cricketer holds the record scoring the tenth highest score by a number 11 batsman in Test Cricket. He reached the landmark in the 3rd Test against Australia in 1998. South Africa batted first in that match and scored a mammoth 517 runs in the first innings. Coming in at number 11, Pat Symcox also played a handy 54-run knock in 42 balls. He hit 6 four during his knock.

Former Pakistan cricketer, Mushtaq Ahmed is hailed as one of the best spinners ever to play the game. He finished his career with 185 Test wickets and 161 ODI wickets. However, apart from that, Mushtaq Ahmed also made valuable contributions with the bat on a number of occasions while coming at lower down the order. He holds the record for the 9th highest individual score by a number 11 batsman in Test cricket.

He reached the feat in the first Test match against South Africa in 1997 at Rawalpindi Cricket Ground. Batting first, Pakistan managed to score a gigantic total of 456 runs in the first innings. Mushtaq Ahmed came at number 11 in that innings and played a vital 59-run knock off 106 balls, a knock which was laced with 4 fours and 4 sixes.

Former England cricketer, John Snow played for Sussex and England in the 1960s and 1970s. He was one of England’s best fast bowlers during his time as an international cricketer. Snow was also the Wisden Cricketer of the Year 1973.

His best performance with the bat came against West Indies in 1966. The fifth Test match of the series saw West Indies getting bundled out for 268 runs in the first innings. In reply, England managed to score a gigantic total of 527 runs. John Snow came into the bat at number 11 during that innings and scored an unbeaten 59-run knock off 146 deliveries. His knock was laced with 8 fours. It’s currently the eighth highest individual score by a number 11 batsman in Test Cricket.

Pakistan’s former cricketer, Wasim Bari has the seventh-highest individual score by a number 11 batsman in Test Cricket.  He played 81 Tests and 51 one-day internationals for Pakistan between 1961 and 1984. He retired from international cricket as the most capped player for Pakistan in the history of Pakistan cricket.

Wasim Bhari also holds the record for the seventh-highest individual score by number 11 batsman in Test Cricket. During the third innings of the 1st Test between Pakistan and West Indies in 1977, Wasim Bhari came at number 11 when the team was in trouble with the score reading 158 for 9. He held firm at one end and managed to take Pakistan to 291 runs. Bhari played a vital unbeaten knock of 60 runs, including 10 fours.

One of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, Glenn McGrath also finds himself on the list. McGrath is counted amongst the all-time greats in world cricket. The former Australian cricketer currently has the sixth-highest number of wickets in Test Cricket. In 124 Tests, he managed to pick 563 wickets at an outstanding average of 21.64.

Mcgrath used to bat number 11 in Test Cricket. He also contributed valuable knocks with the bat on a few occasions in Test Cricket. His best score came against New Zealand in the first Test in 2004. After New Zealand were bundled out for 353 runs in the first innings, Australia managed to score 585 runs in the second innings.

Glenn McGrath came to bat at number 11 and managed to score valuable 61 runs in 92 deliveries. It’s currently the sixth-highest individual score by a number 11 batsman in Test Cricket.

Former South African cricketer Bert Vogler made headlines during the 1906 home Test series. He was hailed as one of the best bowlers in world cricket during his time as an international cricketer.

Vogler has also been named the Wisden Cricketer of the Year. In his illustrious career, he managed to pick 64 wickets in just 15 Tests at an average of 22.73. His best score came against England, in which he managed to score an unbeaten knock of 62 runs. His knock was laced with 5 fours and 3 sixes. It’s currently the fifth-highest knock by a number-11 batsman in Test Cricket.

India’s one of the best fast bowlers in their cricket history finds himself at number four position in the list. With his left-arm seam bowling, he brought a different variety to the pace attack. During his career, he bowled some outstanding spells of fast bowling. He finished his Test cricket career with 311 wickets in 92 Tests at 32.9. Zaheer Khan also contributed valuable knocks with the bat while batting at lower down the order.

His best score came while batting at number 11 against came against Bangladesh in the first Test in 2004 at Dhaka. After Bangladesh were bundled out for 184 runs, India posted a mammoth score of 526 runs in the second innings.

Zaheer Khan came at number 11 and made a valuable contribution of 75 runs in 115 balls, a knock which was laced with 10 fours and 2 sixes. It’s currently the fourth-highest individual score by a batsman while batting at number 11 position in Test Cricket.

James Anderson is touted as one of the greatest fast bowlers ever to play Test Cricket. He is currently 39 years and old and still represents England National Cricket Team in the longest format. Anderson currently has the third most number of wickets in Test cricket, having managed 640 wickets in 169 Tests at an average of 26.58. Anderson also holds the record for the third-highest individual score by a number 11 batsman in Test Cricket.

He achieved the feat during the first Investec Test in 2014 against India. After India scored a huge total of 457 runs, England fought back brilliant with the bat as they posted 496 runs in the second innings. Coming to the crease as a number 11 batsman, James Anderson went on to score a record-breaking 81-run knock off 130 balls. His knock was studded with 17 fours. The match, however, was resulted in a draw.

West Indies former cricketer, Tino Best was known for his aggressive bowling in international cricket. He played 25 Tests for West Indies and managed to pick 57 wickets at an average of 40.2. Apart from his bowling exploits, the West Indies bowler was known for playing a record-breaking knock against England in 2012.

Coming at number 11 in the third Test against England in 2012, Tino Best frustrated the opposition with a stellar knock of 95 runs in 112 balls. He held firm at one end and scored 14 fours and 1 six during his knock. His knock helped the team reach a total of 426 runs in the first innings. It’s currently the second-highest score by a number 11 batsman in Test Cricket.

Australian spinner, Ashton Agar entered his name in the record books in his very first Test match against England in 2013. After England were bundled out for 215 runs, Australia managed to score 280 runs in the second innings. Australia, at one stage, were in all sorts of trouble, having lost 9 wickets for 117 runs.

However, Ashton Agar then played a superb knock of 98 runs in just 101 balls to help the team reach a respectable 280-run total. His knock was laced with 12 fours and 2 sixes and is currently the highest individual score by a number 11 batsman in Test Cricket.
