New Zealand recorded their then the lowest – now second-lowest – total in Test cricket when they hosted neighbours, Australia for a lone Test in Wellington. Lead by Walter Hadlee, New Zealand batted first and were dismissed for 42 runs inside 40 overs. The visitors took a lead of 157 runs.
The hosts were bowled out for 52 in their second innings, as Australia, led by Bill Brown, won the match by an innings and 103 runs.
