India started off their maiden T20 World Cup in the best way possible with a title win and since then their search hunt for the second title has been long. With a young set of players, India managed to win the maiden T20 World cup under the leadership of MS Dhoni and apart from that, 2014 has been the closest they have got to where they lost to Sri Lanka in the finals.

The previous T20 World cup saw them losing out to West Indies in the semi-finals and their campaign in the 2021 T20 World cup hasn’t started well with the loss to Pakistan. It is time to look at the top 5 Indian players with the most runs in T20 World Cup history.

Gautam Gambhir has been one of the most responsible players for India in ICC tournaments as he top-scored in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2007 and in the 2011 World cup win. Gambhir was popularly called the man for the big stages and he steps up when India needs him the most.

Gambhir is the fifth-highest run-scorer for India in T20 World Cup history with 524 runs in 21 games at an average of 26.20 and a strike rate of 118.01. He scored four half-centuries in T20 World cups and played till the 2012 edition of the tournament.

MS Dhoni has been around since the maiden edition of the T20 World cup and he was the skipper of the side till the previous edition of the T20 World cup in 2016. The wicket-keeper batsman is one of the greatest finishers in the limited-overs format and he has played some valuable innings at the end overs.

Dhoni accumulate 529 runs in the 33 games he played for India in the T20 World cups and has an average of 35.26 and at a strike rate of 123.88. It is very surprising that Dhoni hasn’t scored a T20 international fifty in the tournament history despite his good numbers and 45 is his highest score.

Yuvraj was one of the most impactful players for India in the T20 World cups and he was the first man to hit six sixes in an over in T20 cricket which he did against England in the maiden edition of the tournament. He is a dangerous player in shorter formats and can change the game very quickly.

Yuvraj is India’s third-highest run-scorer in T20 World cups with 593 runs in 31 games at an average of 23.72 and he was part of the side till the previous edition of the T20 Worldcup. Yuvraj had a strike rate of 128.92 in T20 Worldcup and he has hit four fifties.

India’s limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma has been playing the T20 World cup since the maiden edition and he played as a finisher in the title-winning campaign in 2007. Rohit is one of the most elegant batsmen going around in the world at the moment and he is currently India’s number one opener in all formats.

Rohit scored 673 runs in 29 games at an average of 37.38 and at a strike rate of 126.98 and he has a big role to play in the ongoing edition of the tournament. He has scored six half-centuries in the T20 World cup and he is the second-highest run-scorer in T20 World cup history.

Virat Kohli is undoubted, the greatest match-winner India has ever had in the limited-overs format and he is one of the few players in the world to average more than 50 in all the formats. The Indian skipper has been part of the tournament since the 2012 edition.

Virat Kohli is India’s highest run-scorer in T20 World cups with 834 runs in 17 games at an average of 83.40 and at a strike rate of 131.75. He has scored 10 fifties in the tournament already and was the man of the tournament in the last two editions.
