2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Twitter Reacts As Pakistan Thrash India To Win Maiden Title

India’s Champions Trophy campaign ended on a disappointing note as Pakistan thrashed them by a whopping margin of 180 runs to win their first Champions Trophy title. Chasing an improbable 338, the defending champions never looked in contention to chase down the total and were eventually bowled out for 158 in the 31st over.

India got off to a disastrous start with Mohammad Amir sending back Rohit Sharma for a duck in the very first over. To make the matters worse for the defending champions, Amir dismissed Kohli for five in his next over to deal a huge blow to India’s hopes of chasing down the big total. Amir was not yet and and struck once again, this time removing another in-form batsman Shikhar Dhawan to reduce India to 33 for three.

Shadab Khan then accounted for Yuvraj Singh to pile more misery on the defending champions. And the match all but ended when Hasan Ali sent back MS Dhoni for 4 to leave India reeling at 54 for 5. Hardik Pandya then kept everyone interested in the match with a stunning 43-ball 76 runs knock. His knock was studded with 4 fours and 6 sixes but the match all but ended when a mix up between him and Ravindra Jadeja resulted in his run-out.

Earlier, Pakistan rode on Fakhar Zaman’s maiden ODI century to post a massive score. Pakistan openers Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali proved India skipper Virat Kohli’s decision to bowl first totally wrong by adding 128 runs before the latter was run-out for 59.

However, Fakhar fully capitalised on the start and went on to compile a brilliant century before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya for 114. Babar Azam then kept the scoreboard ticking at a good pace with 46 from 52, before Mohammad Hafeez’s whirlwind knock of 57 runs to propel Pakistan to a big total.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
