India bank on centuries from Rohit Sharma and a couple of fifties from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to post 336 runs before the bowlers produced a clinical effort to beat Pakistan by 89 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Meanwhile, Rohit brought his second hundred of this World Cup and his 24th overall in ODI cricket. However, the swashbuckling opener denied ranking his centuries while speaking at the post-match press conference.

Rohit leads India against Pakistan

While defending the target, India received a massive blow as Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to leave the field with a hamstring pull. But it came as a disguise as Vijay Shankar who came to bowl at his place struck in his very first delivery. Since then, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman tried to bail Pakistan out, but once Kuldeep Yadav bamboozled Babar with outstanding delivery, it was all over for Pakistan. Kuldeep struck one more while Hardik Pandya chipped in two wickets with consecutive balls before the rain pouring down. The revised target read, Pakistan needed 136 runs from 30 deliveries which looked impossible for Sarfraz Ahmed & Co. Imad Wasim tried his best as Pakistan fell short by 89 runs.

Previously, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul added 136 runs for the first wicket to set the platform for the batters to follow. Although Rahul got out for 57 runs, skipper Virat Kohli dominated from the word go and staged a terrific partnership with Rohit. The duo took India to massive total, and in the process, Rohit completed his second hundred of this World Cup. He has been in scintillating form right from the start with two centuries and one fifty to his name. Meanwhile, it looked like India were well in place to cross the 350-run mark, but Mohammad Amir pulled things back to restrict the Men in Blues to 336 runs.

Rohit refuses to rank his century

Meanwhile, the target proved too much for Pakistan as they fell short by 89 runs courtesy DLS method. Rohit Sharma, who scored a brilliant century; however, refused to rank his hundred and said that all big knocks are important and it is challenging to list those. India will play Afghanistan next on June 22 (Saturday) at the Rose Bowl in Southampton as Rohit will hope to keep this devastating form going.

“I am sure if I get another hundred next game you will ask me the same question. It’s hard to put any knock on top because all those knocks you play for your country are really really important so its very tough,” Rohit Sharma said at the press-match press conference.
