World Cup 1975: Most Runs Scored by a Batsman ∼ The Cricket World Cup 1975 or the Prudential Cup 1975 was the first edition of the ICC World Cup. It was also the first major limited overs One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament.
World Cup 1975: Participating Teams
Eight teams had participated in the first-ever World Cup – the six Test-playing teams of the time (Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and the West Indies), plus leading Associate nations Sri Lanka and East Africa.

World Cup 1975: Format
The format of that competition saw the teams being divided into two groups of four, with each team playing the other teams in their group once; the top two from each group qualified for the semi-finals, with the winners of these matches meeting in the final.
According to the rule, each innings consisted of 60 overs with the players dressed in whites.
England, New Zealand, West Indies and Australia made it to the semifinals. It was the only instance of the World Cup so far where no Asian team made it to the semifinal.
World Cup 1975: Finalist
Australia and West Indies then made it to the final by beating England and New Zealand respectively. Favourites West Indies then beat Australia in the final at Lord’s by 17 runs to become the first World Cup winners.
The first edition of the World Cup, nonetheless, saw some exceptional batting efforts. New Zealand’s Glenn Turner led the list of the run-scoring chart, scoring a staggering 333 in just four games. In a tournament where no other batsmen could even cross the 250-run mark, Turner finished as the top-scorer by a huge margin.
