The third and final Test of the three-match series between the Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team and the Dean Elgar-led South Africa National Cricket Team ended in a draw. With the draw, the Aussies managed to retain their No.1 position on the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 Points Table.

The third Test was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground and the rain played a big part in the match or else it looked like the hosts would win the third game as well after winning the first Test by 6 wickets in Brisbane and the second Test by innings and 182 runs in Melbourne.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the rain-hit match. The decision turned out to be a good one for the side as they managed to pile up 475/4 before the declaration.

The 36-year-old opener Usman Khawaja was once again the architect of the Australian batting unit as he scored a brilliant 195* runs off 368 balls.

Also, the modern-day batting great Steve Smith smashed a remarkable century while Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne registered amazing half-centuries in the first innings.

The struggles of the Proteas batters continued in Test cricket and they once again looked poor against the strong Aussie attack. South Africa lost three quick wickets in the first innings, before Khaya Zondo and Temba Bavuma added 48 runs together. Zondo also stitched together good 45 runs with Verreynne.

However, the best batting performance in the innings came from Keshav Maharaj, who scored a good half-century and added 80 runs in 161 balls with Simon Harmer.

Josh Hazlewood picked up 4 wickets, pace spearhead Pat Cummins bagged 3 wickets, Nathan Lyon dismissed 2 batters and Travis Head bagged 1 wicket to bundle out the Proteas for 255 to enforce the follow-on.

While following on, Dean Elgar endured yet another failure, but Sarel Erwee scored good 42* runs and Heinrich Klaasen scored 35 runs. Temba Bavuma also contributed 17* runs as the match finished in a draw when the Proteas were at 106/2. Notably, the Aussie bowlers pushed for the win and gave their all, but it was not enough to seal the win.
