The second ODI between India and West Indies is scheduled to be held at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma-led India team registered a clinical 6 wicket-win over West Indies in the first ODI.
They would look to continue the winning momentum and, thereby, seal the series. Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss in the first ODI and asked West Indies to bat first. On a turning track in Ahmedabad, West Indies batsmen found it tough to play against the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar.
India’s lead spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal spun a web around the West Indies batsmen as he picked 4 wickets for 49 runs in 9.5 overs. His ally, Washington Sundar also produced a brilliant bowling performance of 3 for 30 runs in 9 overs.
The duo ensured India kept taking wickets at regular intervals and deny West Indies of posting a big total on the board. At 23 overs, West Indies were in all sorts of trouble as they had lost 7 wickets for 79 runs on the board.
However, Jason Holder and Fabien Allen then stitched hands to lead a good bit of recovery. The duo added 78 runs for the 8th wicket and helped the team reach a respective total of 176 runs in the first innings.
Jason Holder (57 off 71) was the only batsman who managed to score a half-century for West Indies during that innings. In pursuit of the score, Rohit Sharma gave the team a rollicking start with the bat. He looked positive right from the onset of his innings.
The Indian captain managed to score 60 runs in just 51 deliveries, a knock which was laced with 10 fours and 1 six. He got out in the thirteenth over but ensured India get just the start they were looking for.
The likes of Ishan Kishan (28 off 36) and Virat Kohli (8 off 4) didn’t look at their usual self, while Rishabh Pant got run-out after scoring 11 off 9 deliveries. India, at one stage, found themselves in a little trouble as they had lost 4 wickets for 116 runs on the board.
However, an unbeaten partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda helped India cross the finishing line in just 28 overs. Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda both remained unbeaten on 34 (36) and 26 (32) respectively.
