India vs West Indies 2022: ODI Series To Be Played Behind Closed Doors In Ahmedabad

The upcoming three-match ODI series between India and West Indies which is slated to begin from February 6 onwards, and which will be played in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad will be played behind closed doors.

This decision of holding all the three One-day Internationals between the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team and Kieron Pollard’s West Indies without any spectators in the Motera Stadium was announced by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on their official Twitter account.

The first ODI between the two sides will be a historic one as India will become the first team in one-day cricket history to play 1000 ODI matches.

“We are all set to host West Indies Tour of India ODI Series 2022. 1st ODI on 6th of Feb will be a very special and historic match as India will be playing it’s 1000th ODI. Indian team will be the first cricket team in the world to achieve this feat,” Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) tweeted.

“Considering the current situation, all the matches will be played behind the closed doors,” it added.

Eden Gardens In Kolkata To Host The India V West Indies T20I Series With 75% Capacity Crowd

On the other hand, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced that the three-match T20I series between India and West Indies will see a 75% crowd in the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. This comes after the West Bengal government on Monday issued a notification about the same.

As per the West Bengal state government notification issued on Monday, “all indoor and outdoor sports activities will be allowed with 75 percent of the capacity of the venue”, which means a crowd of around 50,000 can be expected.

“We are thankful to the honorable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, chief secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75 per cent of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium. We feel that it will give a fresh lease of life to the sports persons of the state,” CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement.

“After the New Zealand T20I last year, this time too, CAB is confident that it will be able to successfully host the three T20Is against the West Indies in a similar manner,” he added.
