With their loss against UP Warriorz, the gates for the WPL 2023 playoffs are now closed for Gujarat Giants. Captain Sneh Rana still finds the good in their performance today.

Giants were playing for survival against Warriorz in today’s match in the Women’s Premier League. Batting first, the Gujarat team notched up a challenging total of 178/6, with Ashleigh Gardner and Dayalan Hemalatha scoring crucial 50s. In response, the team led by Alyssa Healy chased down the score with 1 ball to spare. Grace Harris was named Player of the Match for her quickfire 72-off-41.

Having won only 2 out of their 8 matches, Gujarat Women find themselves at the bottom of the table and out of contention for a playoff spot. Their loss also assured that they will most definitely remain at the bottom of the WPL 2023 table.

Speaking during the post-match presentation, Sneh Rana commended the effort put in by her team during the neck-to-neck encounter. She praised the batting lineup for putting up a competitive score, and also congratulated Player of the Match Grace Harris.

“The girls were amazing, they played really good cricket. I should give them the credit for putting a good score for us. I think the girls have done whatever they have been told to do. The bowlers were good too. (On Hemalatha’s innings) She has played an amazing knock today, I mean she was effortless today. (On Grace Harris) She is a strong opponent. Anything short and in her area, would go out for sure.”

The result also ensured that RCB Women are knocked out of the tournament as well.

UP Warriorz confirm their place in WPL 2023 playoffs

With their win over Gujarat Giants, UP Warriorz have confirmed their ticket to WPL 2023 playoffs. The UP franchise will join MI Women and DC Women as the third and final team to make it to the WPL 2023 playoffs.

Warriorz, captained by Alyssa Healy, will find it difficult to end the league stage at the top of the table, however. As in WPL 2023, the table toppers automatically qualify for the finals, with the 2nd and 3rd qualifying teams playing an eliminator to make it to the finals.

MI and DC face each other tonight in a match that can seal that top spot. If Mumbai Indians win tonight’s match, they will confirm their place at the top of the table and will qualify for the finals. But if DC win the match, it will be a three-way shootout to the top.
