Mumbai Indians Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur commented on her side’s eliminator win against UP Warriorz in WPL 2023.

MI were put up to bat first. The start of the innings was a little slow, but Harmanpreet and Nat Sciver-Brunt picked up the pace considerably after the 10th over. After Kaur’s wicket, it was Brunt who took on the UP bowlers, scoring a 72 not-out off 38 balls and forming a decent partnership with Amelia Kerr. Mumbai ended their innings at 182/4.

Warriorz’s innings kicked off on a rocky note, losing quick wickets in the first 10 overs. Kiran Navgire did fire back with a solid 43-off-27, but once she got out in the 13th over, it was mostly game over for the UP franchise. They were bowled out for 110 in the 18th over, losing the match by 72 runs. MI’s bowler Issy Wong took the first WPL hat-trick, scalping wickets of Navgire, Simran Shaikh, and Sophie Eccleston in the 13th over. Sciver-Brunt was named the Player of the Match.

Speaking of her team’s impressive performance tonight, MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur spoke about the team’s win and future in the post-match presentation.

“We have a decent bowling wicket, we know anyone can come and take wickets. Wongy is always excited to bowl, today she was always there and very happy. She is someone who can take us through any game [on Nat Sciver-Brunt]. We have young girls doing well on the field, we have always spoken about getting some run-outs and that was a crucial point in the game. They have a very positive energy and are happy to have them. They are a very good side and we just want to enjoy the final.” she said.

Mumbai Indians Women will take on Delhi Capitals Women in the final of WPL 2023 following MI’s win against UP Warriorz in the eliminator.

The inaugural season of WPL saw 3 teams qualify for the playoffs. Delhi, ending on top of the league table, directly qualified for the finals. The 2nd and 3rd placed teams took on each other in an eliminator to decide the second finalists, which turned out to be MI.

As the 1st and 2nd finishing teams in the league table, many might find it right that Delhi and Mumbai will also face each other in the final, which will take place in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Sunday, March 26.
