After winning all 5 of their matches to start the tournament, MI-W seemed to have lost their way, losing the last 2 games against UP Warriorz and DC-W in WPL 2023. Picking a win in their last league game against RCB-W, Player of the Match Amelia Kerr says that it is nice for her team to turn their fortunes around.

Winning the toss, Mumbai decided to field first. An impressive bowling performance, spearheaded by Kerr (3/22), resulted in RCB only being able to post a total of 125/9.

MI flew off the blocks while chasing, scoring 53 in the powerplay. But a few wickets falling in the middle overs resulted in the chase slowing down. It was again Amelia Kerr, this time with a bat, who guided her team’s attack, taking her team to a victory by scoring 31 runs.

So, it was not a surprise when Kerr was announced the Player of the Match. In the post-match conference, she highlighted that many things in the match went her way, and how she, along with Pooja Vastrakar, slowed down the innings following the top order’s departure.

“I think it is nice to get the win. To turn it around, it shows some character of the team. Was a quick turn around for us. Nice to come through. Seems to go my way a little today. 10 an over was a good day when I got here. There are some world class batters here. Short boundaries as well and they can go for it. The pleasing thing was the PP. We got a great start. But then we lost a few wickets. It was about playing some good shots. I had a good partnership with Pooja. We didn’t have the run-rate pressure on us,” she said

MI now find themselves on the top of the league table with all the league matches behind them. They will be looking for direct qualification into the WPL 2023 final.

DC-W will be looking to take back the top spot from MI in WPL 2023

DC-W, who are currently second on the table with one match in hand. Will be looking to take back the top spot by winning their match against UP Warriorz tonight.

Delhi sat on top of the table after defeating Mumbai yesterday. Meg Lanning’s side still have a better Net Run Rate (NRR), meaning that they only need to win their match tonight, which is also the final league match, to directly qualify for the finals of WPL 2023.

Before MI’s win today, UP too had an outside chance of finishing on the top of the points table, but that path has now been sealed
