MI Women had won the toss & elected to bowl against RCB Women. RCB Women had a shaky start to their innings as in the first over itself, Sophie Devine was run out after a huge misunderstanding with Smriti Mandhana. Smriti Mandhana has had a forgettable WPL 2023 where she has looked in two minds whether to attack or defend.

RCB Women had a decent powerplay where they scored 32 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. Smriti Mandhana was slowly getting into the groove. Amelia Kerr was bowling the 7th over and on the 4th delivery, Amelia Kerr bowled a short ball where Smriti Mandhana tried to play a pull shot but got a top edge where wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia took an easy catch. Smriti Mandhana was dismissed on 24 runs in 25 balls where she struck 3 fours & 1 six. At that time, RCB Women’s score was 33-2 in 6.4 overs.

Smriti Mandhana didn’t score a single half-century in WPL 2023 which is quite astonishing. Perhaps, the burden of captaincy affected her natural game. Smriti Mandhana scored 149 runs in 8 innings with a strike rate of 111.9 in WPL 2023. RCB Women now would be hoping that Ellyse Perry plays a significant knock for the team as smashing the bowlers from the word go won’t be easy for the new batters.

MI Women would sense that they can restrict RCB Women below 150 which would allow their batters to hunt down the target quickly. There is a chance that NRR (Net run rate) would come into the act in the last league match of DC Women vs UP Warriorz as both MI Women & DC Women are tied at 10 points with a slight difference in NRR.
