DC Women thrashed UP Warriorz in the last league match of WPL 2023. DC Women won the match by 5 wickets & quite comfortably chased the target of 139 runs in 17.5 overs. Alice Capsey was the difference in the end as the all-rounder took 3 wickets earlier & then played a knock of 34 runs in 31 balls where she struck 4 fours & 1 six. Alice Capsey has been the silent assassin where she has provided much-needed breakthroughs & stitched invaluable partnerships.

DC Women’s opening pair of Meg Lanning & Shafali Verma once again decimated the bowlers in the power-play overs as they were involved in a partnership of 56 runs in 4.5 overs. DC Women against all odds have directly qualified for WPL 2023 final as they have 12 points with an NRR (net run rate ) of +1.85 whereas MI Women have 12 points with an NRR of +1.71

UP Warriorz skipper Alyssa Healy would rue the fact that she couldn’t convert her start as she scored 36 runs in 34 balls where she struck 4 fours & 1 six. Tahlia McGrath provided the impetus at the back end of the innings as she scored 58 runs in 32 balls where she smashed 8 fours & 2 sixes but they were around 20-30 runs short.

UP Warriorz should not make wholesale changes in their eliminator match against MI Women on 24th March (Friday). The problem with the UP Warriorz team is that they don’t have a reliable middle order. It would be interesting to see whether UP Warriorz can upset MI Women in the eliminator.

During the post-match presentation, Alice Capsey was asked about her all-around performance & back to back knocks for DC Women.

“Played a different innings yesterday, which was fun. But took some responsibilty today. At number 3. it is about taking on the bowlers. Tried to stay calm under pressure. The duel with Sophie was superb. She is the world number 1 for a reason. First final of the WPL and that is exciting,” said Alice Capsey.
