While cricket has seen some weird scenes, not would be perhaps as unique as what happened in the 10th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). With Mumbai Indians chasing 160 runs on the board, one DRS challenge will surely be the talking point from this game.
During the match, Hayley Matthews was on strike when an unusual incident occurred. Sophie Ecclestone, the English bowler, was in the middle of bowling the fifth over of the innings when she made an LBW appeal.

Initially, Paschim Pathak, the umpire, ruled it not out. However, after the decision was reviewed, the third umpire declared it out amidst a great deal of commotion on the field.
Upon reviewing the decision, the replay revealed that the ball hit Matthews’ pad and the ball tracking system showed three reds, leading to the original out call. This caused Matthews to become visibly upset and agitated, leading her to converse with Alyssa Healy, the opposing team’s captain, and refuse to leave the field. However, she eventually walked off, but the drama did not end there.
Surprisingly, the DRS decision was once again challenged, which was unprecedented. The replays were then shown again, but it appeared to be footage of a different delivery, or perhaps even reverse footage.
In reality, the footage showed that the ball hit the ground, then the bat, and then the pad, which was different from the original replays. Despite this, Matthews refused to leave the field, knowing that the replays were not accurate and challenged this with a DRS of her own.
