DC Women picked up a comfortable win over MI Women to open up the top-of-the-table spot for themselves in WPL 2023.

Delhi won the toss and chose to bowl first in what turned out to be a fairly one-sided affair. Scalping 3 top-order wickets for just 10 runs, the Capitals didn’t let Mumbai’s innings pick up steam, with Harmanpreet Kaur’s team ending their innings at 109/8.

While chasing the small total, DC never looked in trouble. Shafali Verma and captain Meg Lanning gave their side a rocketing start, scoring 50 runs in just 4 overs before Verma lost her wicket. Lanning and Alice Capsey didn’t take their foot off the pedal as they took DC to a comfortable victory by 9 wickets, with 11 overs to spare.

With this huge win, DC now sit at the top of the league table. Both DC and MI have won 5 out of 7 matches, but Delhi have a better Net Run Rate (NRR). Mumbai have now lost their last 2 matches.

The Orange Cap for most runs is still with RCB’s Sophie Devine with 266 runs in 7 matches. DC captain Meg Lanning is not far behind.

While the Purple Cap for most wickets is held by UP Warriorz’s Sophie Eccleston with 13 wickets. This race is much more competitive, with Saika Ishaque and Hayley Matthews on 12 and 11 wickets respectively.

Delhi Women’s victory also ensures that the top-of-the-table spot is still open with one match to go. While Capitals will face UP Warriorz in their final league match, while the Indians will take on RCB Women.

Tonight’s result also means that UP have an outside chance to clinch the top spot as well. If they secure a massive win with MI suffering a big loss, they can reach the top of the table as well. Although chances of that happening are slim at best.

UP Warriorz knocked out Gujrat Giants and RCB-Women of WPL 2023 with their win earlier today

UP Warriorz picked up a win against Gujrat Giants in today’s evening match in WPL 2023 and secured their spot in the playoffs. This result also ensured that the Giants, who lost their 6th math out of 8, were knocked out of the tournament.

With only three playoff positions to fill, RCB-Women too find their path to the playoffs closed.

Gujrat have played all their matches and sit at the bottom of the table, while RCB, having won two matches themselves, have one match in hand. If they win their last league match against MI, not only can they ensure the fourth spot in the league table, but also ruin Mumbai’s chances of directly qualifying for the finals.
