The 12th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 saw the battle between Mumbai Indians Women and Gujarat Giants at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, March 14.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s bad luck at the toss continued and her side were invited to bat first by the Gujarat Giants in the WPL game. Mumbai Indians Women fielded an unchanged playing XI and on the other hand, Gujarat Giants made two changes as Dunkley and Sutherland came in for Laura and Wareham.

Batting first, MI-W were off to a poor start in the match as Hayley Matthews was cleaned up by Ashleigh Gardner for a duck. However, Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt stitched up a brilliant 74-run partnership to bring back the momentum towards their side.
Although Yastika and Sciver-Brunt batted brilliantly, they failed to reach the 50-run milestone. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur once again showcased a batting masterclass and smashed 51 runs off 30 balls.

In the end, Mumbai Indians Women posted 162/8 on the board with the help of Harmanpreet Kaur’s fifty and Yastika Bhatia, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr’s amazing contributions.
From Gujarat Giants, Ashleigh Gardner was the top performer as she bagged a three-wicket haul while Sneh Rana, Tanuja Kanwar and Kim Garth picked up one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Sophia Dunkley was cleaned up for a golden duck in the first over. In the 6th over, Hayley Matthews produced a double-wicket over, dismissing Annabel Sutherland and Sabbhineni Meghana, and at the end of the powerplay Gujarat Giants were at 34/3.
Other than Harleen Deol and Sneh Rana no batter was able to reach the 20-run mark and at the end of the 10th over they were at 55/5. The wickets fell at regular intervals and Gujarat Giants were restricted to 107/9 in their 20 overs.
Dominant Mumbai Indians Women won the match by 55 runs to register their 5th consecutive win in the WPL 2023 and become the first team to officially qualify for the WPL 2023 playoffs.
