The double-headers from the Women’s Premier League 2023 brought some surprising results to the points table after UP Warriorz managed to put an end to the five-game winning streak for Mumbai Indians while Royal Challengers Bangalore Women bagged their second win of the season defeating Gujarat Giants.
Although Mumbai Indians started their second innings positively, with the required run rate in their favour, Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath’s crucial knocks put UP-W back in the game.Â
With only five runs needed off the last six balls, Ecclestone missed the first two deliveries as Wong, Mumbai’s bowler, was right on the money. The tension was palpable in both camps as the match approached its climax.
However, Ecclestone held her nerve and finished off the game in style by hitting a crucial six. This exceptional victory for UP-W not only showcased their strong team spirit and resilience but also marked the end of MI’s winning streak of five matches in the WPL.
The second game saw RCB-W dominate with the bat, thanks to a brilliant yet unfortunate knock from Sophie Devine as the batter smashed 99 runs for her side in a successful run chase.Â
After restricting Gujarat to 188 runs on the board, Bangalore took just 15.3 overs to chase down the total with the batters contributing to the cause. While the win may not affect their playoff chances, the team have surely put a dent in Gujarat’s chances of making it into the knockouts.
