DC Women suffered a heart-wrenching defeat in the final of the WPL 2023. MI Women won the match by 7 wickets with 3 balls left. DC Women pacer Shikha Pandey scored 27 runs in 17 balls where she struck 3 fours & 1 six and helped the team to post a target of 132. Pandey had a decent outing with the ball in hand where she gave away 23 runs in her 4 over but went wicketless which hurt the team.

DC Women batters would rue their shot selection as they should have shown some sort of resistance in the power-play overs where they lost 3 wickets for 38 runs. Skipper Meg Lanning was the only one who looked in complete control and scored 35 runs in 29 balls where she smashed 5 fours.

Shikha Pandey was seen attending the press conference after WPL 2023 final & spoke about the WPL 2023 final. Shikha Pandey was quite hopeful that the team can win the next edition. Shikha Pandey pointed out that the environment in the dressing room was quite optimistic despite setting a target of 132 runs. Shikha Pandey also revealed how she & Radha Yadav unleashed an attack in the last 4 overs of the DC Women’s innings.

“All the conversations in the DC camp have been around being the best team players. The team that has the most team players usually wins. It didn’t work out for us this time, but I’m sure we will have many more titles in the longer run. We’ll try harder next season.” said Shikha Pandey.

“It would’ve been really nice to win the inaugural edition of the WPL. I can assure everyone that we tried our best. I was batting conservatively until Radha came in and played a big shot. And then she encouraged me to play my shots as well,” she added.

Shikha Pandey revealed the prep talk given by DC Women skipper Meg Lanning. It won’t be wrong to say that the captaincy of Meg Lanning was terrific as she marshalled her troops smartly. Shikha Pandey praised MI Women batters Nat Sciver-Brunt & Amelia Kerr. Shikha Pandey was quite delighted to play in the inaugural WPL & hailed the DC Women support staff.

“She just asked us to enjoy the game and bowl at our best. She also said that we play cricket for these challenging moments. I thought we could pull it off when we needed to defend 21 in the last two overs. But Amelia Kerr played some really good shots and Nat Sciver-Brunt also played a very good innings,” said Shikha Pandey.

“It was a really good tournament for me. The last one and a half years have been challenging for me. It was wonderful working with a great support staff and playing alongside legends. This tournament and DC will always have a special place in my heart,” she added.
